Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum Internships and Fellowships

The Anacostia Community Museum is a newer Smithsonian institution located in southeast Washington, DC. This cutting-edge museum seeks to interpret urban experiences and the culture of minorities. It offers a very mentor-focused internship experiences for students aged eighteen or older and enrolled at or recently graduated from an academic institution.

Internship program:

  • Academic credit available
  • Interest in areas of focus presented at the museum 
  • 18 years or older and enrolled or recently graduated from an academic institution
  • At least 6 weeks; typically 3 months to 1 year
  • 20 hours/week
  • Internships available in: Office of Advancement, Collections, Education, Research, Design, Public Relations, and Special Events
  • Unpaid without stipends (at least for now although the Smithsonian offers some scholarship programs, particularly for minorities)
  • Selection made on a case-by-case basis based on student preparation and the institution's faculty availability and needs
  • Most likely a rolling deadline
